Is the new Ferrari 458 going to save Europe?

First it was the Corvette Z06. Now its the Nissan GTR. Both have been breaking records round the Nurburgring and making those Ferrari owners question the point in their 6 figure investment.

Will the new Ferrari 458 'Italia' do what it needs to and move the goalposts? The stats say it should, but what do you think?|||I think it would.Ferraris are fast so why wouldn't the 458 be fast? Its a lot faster than an F430 so I think it should. But, with a 6figure price tag, ahhmmm........I'll probably get something cheaper like the Corvette ZR1 which is more than 100 grand less than what the 458 likely cost. The GTR is fast but the ZR1 is faster.I've heard that the current record holder is the 600hp ACR Dodge Viper with a time of 7:22.1 so probably the 458 can tie that.Wait a minute. There is something Europe can do to compete against the Japanese and Americans.Their diesel engines, particularly the one in the Audi R10.|||Depends on price. The GTR is a killer at $80k. The Z06 is cheaper than that, the ZR1 a little more.

I didn't know Ferrari owners cared about Ring numbers. Most of the guys I know who have them are interested in other things. Its the guys in the lesser cars who seem to get all wound up over lap times of a track they will never drive except on Gran Turismo.

A little better? A little worse? I don't think it matters much.
